Policy summary
The policy covers the costs of claims, of handling
claims and of defending claims made against you relating to the activities
of the individual named in your policy for your coaching business and
any associated activities specified and included.
This is a claims made policy.
There are two important dates with Professional Indemnity
insurance.
- The date you become aware of a claim - if this is during the
policy term the insurers will consider this claim IF
- The date on which the alleged incident occurred is after the retroactive
date
Put another way - that means the insurer will consider a claim that
you advise them of during the policy term that you first knew about
during the term of the policy that relates to an incident (or alleged
incident) that occurred after the retroactive date.
Unless you have been insured before the retroactive date is the date
on which you are first insured. If you have been insured before then
the retroactive date os the date from which you have been continuously
insured.
To demonstrate with an example. Say your first policy with us (or
another insurer) had a start date of 21 November 2008. That
would also be the retroactive date also, because you had not been
insured before. The policy end date would be 19 November 2009.
Upon the renewal - the new start date would be 20 November 2009
of this policy but the retroactive date would remain as 21 November 2008.
Therefore the underwriters would look at claims that arose during
the term relating to an incident that occurred after the retroactive
date.
